Thurman "Frogtown" Logsdon Funeral Service

Sergeant Chris Christiansen and I met up in St Louis and began the journey to Cleves, OH the Home of the infamous "Frogtown" Thurman Logsdon, M-60 Machine Gunner in 2nd Platoon 3rd squad led by SGT Jeff Hudson. You may not have known it at that time but Frogtown was one of the younger soldiers in 2nd platoon.  He was dedicated to humping his M-60 with Dean Fadeley as his (AG) Assistant Gunner, to a point of naming his M-60 machine gun "Lady Jane". He was always cleaning and attending to his gun when he got the chance. He wanted everyone to know we could count on him and Lady Jane when they were needed most.  We knew that we could count on him to pull more than his weight.  It was like he had to prove that coming from the small rural community along the Miami River on the fringe of Cincinnati called Frogtown that he could overcome all that could be thrown at him.  And throughout his year of service in Vietnam he performed his job with care and excellence.  He was always in the midst of our activities, both in the bush, and in the rear areas, he just loved hanging around with all of the guys and having a good time.

When we got to Cleves we located the Funeral Home and the parking lot was very full. There were several classic antique cars from the local car club that Frogtown was a member of who were lined to join the procession.  Many had come out to say goodbye to a special friend.  We met with his wife Pat who was overwhelmed that we had made such a long trip to come to his funeral. After visiting with her SGT Chris and I did an honor salute to our brother Frogtown.  We met several of his family members. His brother who had passed away had a daughter Bobbi who Frogtown and Pat raised as their own, her daughter Taylor and husband Matt.

We followed the large procession through the area of Cleves; in which Thurman was knick named, "Frogtown" which was his final request.  At the cemetery there were a large turnout of VFW members and the local American Legion honor guards along with military who provided military honors for our friend Frogtown.

We left the cemetery and traveled to spend time with the family. It was an amazing journey and so deserving for our brother Frogtown whom we will forever remember.

Currahee!  Gary Gilliam
